Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi, I’m Tatum Faccenda and I own and operate Makeup By Tatum LLC. I have been a Makeup Artist for over 7 years and have been in the wedding industry for 4 years. My business has grown to now having 3 other makeup artists on my team in which I book for weddings or bring along with me to assist on large wedding parties. I chose my team based not only on their artistry but on how kind and easy they are to work with! Wedding days can be very stressful and I trust that my artists are keeping the bride calm and relaxed during their session. Makeup By Tatum LLC has been awarded The Knot Best Of Weddings as well as the Wedding Wire Couples Choice Award.

wedding vendor interview quote

I truly love making other women feel beautiful and confident the way that moment was for me the first time I had my makeup applied professionally.

How did you become a make-up artist?

I got into makeup artistry after having my own makeup applied professionally. It was truly a “WOW” moment when I saw what makeup could do for my look and how great I felt! At that moment I decided I needed to give my best effort at looking and feeling like that every day! I began by reading makeup artistry books and my skills grew to a point that I thought I could make a career out of it. I started practicing on friends and family and not too long after, I found out that MAC Cosmetics was hiring. I had never wanted a job so badly and I had never been so nervous for an interview but I got the job! MAC was absolutely the best stepping stone I could’ve asked for as far as expanding my skill and building a high-quality makeup kit. I spent 3 years at MAC before deciding it was time to start my own business. I truly love making other women feel beautiful and confident the way that moment was for me the first time I had my makeup applied professionally.

How would you describe your style?

I describe and market my artistry style as “naturally, made-up.” My other artists and I don’t aim for a client to not recognize themselves. The goal is to make the client feel good in their skin and accentuate their features. We want the makeup to be noticeable but not heavy or overdone. My artists and I are also trained to work on all skin tones and types because I am a firm believer in being able to cater to all women of all ages and races!

What are some tips for bridal makeup?

My tips for bridal makeup is similar to my makeup style in general. I think brides should look like the best version of themselves!

My tips for bridal makeup is similar to my makeup style in general. I think brides should look like the best version of themselves! The makeup should compliment the bride’s eye color, skin tone and face shape while still enhancing their overall look. It’s not necessary to load on the makeup to make anyone beautiful. Makeup applied softly but correctly will do all the enhancing needed!

What are the most common mistakes made in bridal makeup?

I don’t think it’s fair for me to point out mistakes in bridal makeup because to each its own as far as personal style or artistry. What I do advise against with bridal makeup is going for a look that is trendy. When I have requests for bright colors or heavy glitter, I kindly steer clients away. Wedding photos are memories that will be around forever and I wouldn’t want my clients to look back and wonder what they were thinking. Bridal makeup should be timeless.

How much does bridal makeup cost?

My bridal makeup costs range from $85-$100 with travel and trial fees being separate.

Because I love how false lashes enhance a look, those are an included option with every makeup session. I will advise brides to not get fixated on cost rather than the quality of work. Beauty industry professionals set their prices based on their worth. It is possible to find a makeup artist for $50 but proceed with caution as the artist may be new or lack professionalism.

What is new in make-up bridal fashion now?

I assure you, you’ll be glad you made room in your wedding budget for professional makeup service!

I think what’s new in bridal makeup is the accessibility of makeup artists. Makeup artistry has grown so much in the past 10 years that it’s not just for Hollywood or rich people anymore. Makeup artists are affordable and well worth the money to look and feel beautiful on such a special day. Photographers also greatly appreciate makeup artists as it makes their editing duties much easier! I assure you, you’ll be glad you made room in your wedding budget for professional makeup service!

Was there ever a time you had to improvise

I don’t recall a specific time that I had to improvise. I always come prepared and I make sure my artists are as well. The great thing about makeup is that products can be interchangeable! Just because its a lipstick doesn’t mean it can’t be a blush!

If you could ask one thing of the brides that would make your job at their wedding easier, what would it be?

If brides could do one thing to make my job easier, it would just be to have a well planned out day. I understand that things happen that can’t be accounted for but it is always a good idea to schedule plenty of time for everything on your wedding day. I always schedule my wedding parties with time to spare. I like to take my time and make sure everyone is happy with their makeup and I never want to be the reason a wedding is running behind.
