Questions to Ask Wedding Venues

Hi! I'm Sarah Agee, I'm from Zionsville, Indiana. I am a wedding planner and venue owner. I have owned my wedding planning business and wedding venue for 7 years. We have been given many awards across our industry and been fortunate to help over 200 brides plan their perfect wedding day! I have a one-year-old daughter who is the light of my life. I am so much more emotional at weddings after having a baby! All I can think of is that someday that'll be my little one getting married!
How did you start?

I love at the end of a night when someone's dad gives me a hug and thanks me for helping his daughter and his wife. I sometimes think dads appreciate us the most!
The Barn was started after I opened my wedding planning business. I realized as a wedding planner I was planning lots of weddings at Barns in Indianapolis so my dad and I decided to fix ours up and host weddings. I love at the end of a night when someone's dad gives me a hug and thanks me for helping his daughter and his wife. I sometimes think dads appreciate us the most!
What makes a great venue event?
My background is in food so I always think that's an important component of any wedding! I'm a classically trained French chef so I love helping clients craft the perfect menu! I love considering all the details from their personal preferences to the time of year, setting we're in and fun food trends! Catering is typically the biggest bill a client pays on their wedding day so I love to ensure the food is worth the expense and memorable.
In your opinion, based on what criteria should a couple select their wedding venue?
- They should select somewhere they love the look and feel of.
- They should also consider the food and beverage piece.
- Do they have to use a specific caterer if they select that venue?
- Does the caterer fit with their style and budget?
What questions should couple ask while touring wedding venues?
Make sure you address access time to the venue. That can have a big effect on whether or not you're able to DIY anything. Setup time is so crucial so that's important to know. They should also understand the food and beverage portion of things. Does this company fit with the style and budget of their wedding?
What is a reasonable price for a wedding venue?
Most venues range from $4,000-$8,000. Each venues comes with a different amount of things included so it's important to understand exactly what you're getting from the venue.
What charges are extra, such as gratuity, overtime, etc.?
We don't have any additional fees but many venues do. Every venue has to pay sales tax so that's important to remember. Our price is the same no matter what day of the week as we only host Friday and Saturday weddings.
What was the most memorable wedding you had at the venue?

I always love when couples have been together for a long time!
I always love when couples have been together for a long time! We had two clients get married last year and they had been together for 10 years. Those ceremonies are always so special and their receptions are so fun because both of their families know each other so well.
What was the most difficult request you have handled?
For us sometimes clients want their reception to continue past the local noise ordinance and we, unfortunately, are not allowed to allow that.

The Barn In Zionsville Ratings and Reviews
Be
Jun 27 '21 at 09:48 PMDown to Earth Mother of the Bride here. I’m going to preface this with saying my son had a barn wedding and I’ve been to other barn weddings and I’ve been in working barns. I understand barns. This venue did not live up to my expectations. I realize everyone has different expectations, so allow me to tell you what you’ll get and you can decide if it’s worth your hard earned money. My daughter’s wedding turned out beautiful, but we would never recommend this venue. The bridal suite doesn’t open till noon and closes when the ceremony begins. This means you have to have all your belongings ready to be moved. It’s added stress to an already busy day. You may want to designate a person to pack up the bridal suite for you. Which in turn may cause them to miss out on things like photos. There’s a beautiful mirror in the suite, but it covers up the best natural light source for pictures. The barn is dirty. Sarah will say “it’s not a ballroom, its a barn” I will tell you that it’s not a working barn. It’s a wedding venue, and it’s dirty. Those sheers may look nice in the photos online, but in person they are tattered and dirty. The chandeliers had cobwebs, and burned out bulbs. There is no attention to detail. There is dust and cobwebs everywhere. The barrels are dirty. Side note, I’ve worked with barrels as decor. I have something to compare these to and I’m telling you, there is better out there. The rustic bar is a little too rustic. The wood was warped and looked like it had not been maintained. (Like everything else there)During the ceremony there were no staff on hand. There was also no staff directing people on where to park. We were told there would be. And then they came out and had people move their cars because they were parked wrong. The only attention to landscaping is simply cutting the grass. There’s nothing special for the amount of money you have to pay for this place. You have to clean up THAT NIGHT. Just imagine that your day has started early in the morning and you have been going, going, and going all day and now you have to clean up that night. Make sure you have plenty of designated people to help you because the staff will not. In fact they act like you’re in their way. I do not feel this venue is worth what they charge. Sarah speaks in a very defensive manner when asked any kind of question and has a strained tone of customer service. It was like we were doing her a favor by having a wedding there and she had to pretend to be nice. Certainly not heartfelt in any way. She acted as if she could care less. This could be a gem of a venue, but it lacks quality management.
